The first week - Part 1

Beatrice has had a busy and eventful first week, consisting primarily of sleeping (mainly in the daytime), pooing (constantly) and breastfeeding (like a barracuda). Below is a short recap of key events...

Monday
Beatrice was born at 6:38pm, after a quick, but intense, labor. Mary, the midwife who delivered her, announced we had a girl and I didn't believe it. Everyone thought little Beatrice was going to be a boy! Except her Dad, of course, who just knew she was going to be Beatrice. Probably for the best she was a girl because we still didn't have a boy's name picked yet - we had taken the name book to the hospital and were trying out names between contractions! After she was born, we stayed in the delivery room for a couple of hours, calling family & getting to know each other. We had to stay the first night in the hospital. Unfortunately St Mary's doesn't have room for dads, so Zack had to leave us around 10pm. Luckily Jasandra and John were still up and had him over for dinner - more turkey! - and to share pictures.

Tuesday
We spent most of Tuesday in the hospital, leaving at 4:30pm, about 6 hours later than we wanted, but finally we were home! We didn't do much more than sit, rest, and stare at Beatrice on Tuesday - our basket of joy...

Wednesday
On Wednesday Beatrice learned a wonderful new (unfortunately fleeting) trick - sucking her thumb! No linear algebra quite yet, but we're working on it. Also many people have suggested we take a picture of her every month with a stuffed animal so you can see her growth over the year so...take 1 with the Flat Bear that Jane gave her. On Wednesday Beatrice also helped her Daddy work - see how well she Blackberrys!
