Poor Beatrice, she's still bald. Well, that's not entirely true - she has LOTS of white-blonde hairs on her head, even on the bald spot on the back, but you can only see them when you're about an inch away from her head, and wearing those special rose-colored glasses they hand out to new parents at the hospital. Random people on the street say things like, "Why did you shave her head?", "What a cute boy!", "She's so cute...but, she's bald. Why doesn't she have any hair?", and my favorite, "Did you know she's bald?", etc etc.
Everytime someone says something like that though, all I can hear is Mel Brooks from the Free To Be You And Me album (feminist propoganda, as Zack calls it)
Listen to Track #2, "Boy Meets Girl" - "...boys are bald and girls have hair". Bea and I listen to that CD alot.
Beatrice has been very busy lately. Besides shaving her head daily, she's been "reading" in the big chair. She alternates between reading/eating her cousin Eleanor's cards and Penny The Hen, a classic if there ever was one. Zack and I can both recite Penny The Hen in our sleep.
The mirror is also becoming an increasingly good way to pass the time. Everytime we look there is always just the cutest baby in there (did you know though...she's bald!) Karina came over the other day and Beatrice had a great time showing her the cute baby in the mirror and other fun things, like how to untie Flat Bear's bowtie with pincing little fingers.

On Saturday we had a little goodbye party with all the folks from London Business School. Unfortunately most of the kids got sick, so our numbers were reduced. But it was a gorgeous day in London, and we actually had a picnic in our little park next to our house. The horse guard even came through! We also fed B her first butternut squash. She liked it. And we just hung out together and played. So much fun.
Zack and I are having a great time playing with Beatrice. Now we just have to turn packing into a fun new game and put her to work. Actually we both decided we'll be happy if only she doesn't learn to crawl anytime soon. Karina, who works with kids as a physiotherapist, said Beatrice is well on her way to walking, but after watching her play on her tummy for a while said only, "Hmmm, perhaps she'll skip crawling." She thought we'd be disappointed when we heard this - not so! One international move with a largely immobile 7 month old - hoorah!
