Gasp! My parents eloped

Today is our anniversary. Well, sort of.

Ok, so this blog is primarily about Beatrice, but this one post will serve to get the news out about our Vegas wedding (which happened LONG before Beatrice was born, but in which she still plays a pivotal role).

As many of you know Zack and I got married on St Simons Island on 3 April 2004. Truth be told though, it was actually our second wedding. We secretly eloped almost a year before in Las Vegas! Why? Many logistical reasons with our move to London, but mostly because we thought it would be fun. To save on lots of emails with photos of the event we've decided to post the story here of our 6 June 2003 wedding.

In May 2003 we were happily living in Oakland, preparing for our move to London at the end of the summer. At the end of the month Zack proposed and I said, "Yes!".

Two weeks later we hopped on a plane and went to Las Vegas. We drank, we gambled (a little), we saw Sigfried and Roy (and their white tigers), and we got MARRIED! No, not by Elvis - that was way too expensive for a grad student and soon-to-be MBA student. Certificate in hand we returned to Oakland with a wild excuse for where we'd been (i.e., not Vegas), but no one ever asked. So it was our little secret until...Beatrice came along.

Liam, the minister who married us, agreed to our "sham" Georgia wedding after we told him we planned to tell our parents just as soon as they had a grandchild to hold. "Here hold the baby. We got married in Vegas. Don't drop the baby!" So once Beatrice arrived, all we had to do was show them the pictures...(all the grandparents have little flip books of the wedding). We were a bit nervous about telling them - would they be mad?? Luckily with Beatrice we seem to be able to do no wrong...thank you Beatrice!

Still, when Beatrice asks one day about our wedding, the one we'll think of first is our (second!) wedding in Georgia with all of our family and friends.

Love it! Steve and I think it is hysterical. You are brave and devious souls.

We can't wait until you are back in the States and we can share more time with you.
