It seems all you have to do is add water and wait a year....
Beatrice is officially a toddler now. "Oh Mommy, I am like just sooo over this. Totally." While Beatrice still enjoys the occassional carseat-fort (who doesn't?), she is now making her displeasure known. Widely known.
Luckily for us, she is still pretty easy going. But now, even without language to help us understand, we're getting it. "Unnnnngggg" means she wants this, while a shrill high pitched squeal means she wants this NOW!
We had to swing through LA today for a work event for me. Afterwards we dropped in on Olivera Street for a few minutes. Long enough for Beatrice to "try" her first churro. In between licks she alternatively unnnngggg'ed and squealed for more.
We also stopped by my office. 34th floor of the building used in the first Die Hard movie. Pretty cool. Beatrice sat at my desk and "worked" some.
And yesterday we went to Luna's 2nd birthday party. She lives in a very cool house up in the Riveria. Beatrice enjoyed the party (until she didn't, and let us know that). The butterfly stickers and mobile were fun too.
Still, even with all of these new "toddler" activities - e.g., toddling around the house, driving us crazy with squeals when something isn't going her way, and a myriad of other new and bizarre reactions to things (when did she stop eating? refusing food? who is this child?) - Beatrice is still a joy to be around most of the time. She will spend 5 minutes on her own trying to put her socks on. So cute. And those high-fives are adorable. And the short snuggles are worth a serious amount of frustration. But most of all I'm enjoying all of her giggling and chuckles when we play now. And watching the sheer amazement play out on her face whenever she (re)encounters something new - you should've seen her face after she watched the laundry spinning.
