Food, Glorious Food!

Well, Beatrice is going to have her first taste of food sometime soon. Mmmm, rice cereal. Just makes your mouth water thinking about it, doesn't it? While we're technically early on the whole eating (6 months is now the imaginary goal line), we've decided to go ahead since Beatrice hasn't gained any weight in the last month and she seems fascinated by food (and can sit up, etc.)

Every few weeks (ok, nearly every week) I take Beatrice to our local clinic to have her weighed and to ask the Health Visitors stupid new-parent questions that do not bear repeating. Inside it is a zoo, with kids and babies screaming and new parents looking weary and shell-shocked. I must admit it was fun to go in with Beatrice today because she sat (sort-of) on the mat and played with the toys. When we went 4 weeks ago she was still such a baby, she wasn't interested in playing or looking at the other kids.

Anyway, at 5 months+ she is still 14lb 6oz and 26 inches. In percentile terms she's fallen from the 50th to the 25th percentile in weight and the 98th to the 75th in height. The nurse assures me that the height thing is bogus until she's two and not to worry; and, I quote, that I "shouldn't worry about her weight - she's the absolute picture of a healthy and happy baby". There was also some mention made of Beatrice's adorable fat rolls around her wrists and knees, which the whole room chimed in on. So we're not worried, but we are going to start solids soon. Very exciting!
In other news...Beatrice still finds plastic bags HILARIOUS. I have a full minute video of her laughing hysterically at Alex tossing the plastic bag up and down. Straight to DVD, this one.
Also Beatrice enjoys saying Mama, but only when crying/whining as part of the following call to whomever will listen, "Mamamamameeeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh" Boo hoo, etc. My siren song.
Also, it is SPRING here! View from our window - Hoorah!
