Potty Trained (?)

I'm not sure who is potty trained - Beatrice or us?  She definitely doesn't want to wear diapers anymore (we're having to fight to get her to wear them to bed!)  She has had a few accidents, but she is pretty much got the control thing down.  Amazing.  Still, we have to remind her to go.  I'm not complaining mind you, but I think this weekend I peed every 30 minutes for two days straight.  It was like being pregnant all over again!  And here is my only real complaint - she is NOT sleeping well.  Up every 1-2 hours crying.  I think it is because she doesn't want to go in her diaper, but it is very hard to reason with a two year old.  Especially at 3:45am.
On Sunday, Joyce came over to visit, so we had a dance party to folk music.  Guess who's idea that was?  At least she didn't make us do "woga"

And this weekend we also said bon voyage to Adrien, Amy & Alexis who had to return to France.  Hope to see them again this summer!

"No more diapers!"

Last night, Beatrice announced that she wanted to go pee.  So she sat on the big girl potty and went.
So this morning she took off her diaper, sat on the potty, and we said good-bye to diapers.  As of noon today we'd had 3 accidents and 3 successes.  Not bad, not bad.

I'm hopeful, but perfectly fine if it doesn't work out.  We'll just have to see...

In other news, I've been working a TON.  Sorry for the lack of postings, especially given how much has been going on!  Our trip to LA and Santa Barbara, another Mission, parties - I'll get on it soon.  But this whole 'balance' thing is interesting to say the least.  The other day when I said I had to go to the airport Beatrice took my face in her hands, made me look her in the eyes, and said, "Mommy no work."  I'd be lying if I said the guilt wasn't ever-present...

Inauguration Day

Beatrice watched the inauguration today. President Barack Obama.  Wow.

She made all the necessary calls afterwards to offer congratulations..."Hi Obama, hi Obama, hi"

"Out Mommy."

Sleepy Sunday morning...Beatrice got up somewhat early and wanted to cuddle in our bed.  This morning however, she cuddled for two minutes and announced, "Mommy shampoo.  Mommy shower.  Mommy out!"
Seems she wanted Daddy all to herself.  She thought it was very funny.  Seeing the two of them together like this makes my heart want to burst.

That afternoon Ryan and Chiara joined us at Zachary's Pizza to meet and greet with Derek, who was passing through town and needed Zachary's Pizza (who doesn't??)  www.zacharys.com
Ryan entertained us all that evening with more piano (Beatrice helped), and Beatrice entertained us with dancing and tea (everyone else was made to help)

"Uno, Dres, Guac"

Beatrice is learning to count in Spanish.  Her own version of Spanish - "Uno, Dres, Guac."
Another fun activity is to take apart her letter/number floor in her room.  She recognizes lots of letters (though C and G look very similar) and enjoys announcing "G - Georgia!" or "C - Colby!" or "E - Eleanor...Baby Eero!"
Other than that...we've just been keeping on keepin' on...

The other morning Beatrice announced she was a Princess and went into her closet and came out like this.  I couldn't resist getting the camera!

Party in the bathroom

So we've been planning a "Grapes of Wrath" (movie) date night with Will for a long while now; tonight we finally had it.  Except Will wasn't able to make it as he had double-booked himself with babysitting (Happy Birthday Megan!)
Anyway, we ended up watching only an hour, but we had a great dinner and what is surely my favorite party moment ever - all of us crammed in the bathroom upstairs watching B take a bath.

Ellie and Ari reading our trashy magazines.  And Baby Eero hanging out with Eric.  Needless to say, Beatrice was in heaven!

Mission San Antonio de Padua

Mission San Antonio de Padua is remote and beautiful.  And in the middle of Fort Hunter-Ligget.  We stopped there on our way back from Santa Barbara and spent a nice hour touring the Mission ...
...and the fabulous museum (this Mission was host to both a pear tree that bore enormous fruit and the first Catholic marriage in California!)...
... harassing the Mission's flea-ridden cat...
... taking a rest in the colorful chapel and checking out the views...
... and, of course, their enormous olive tree!

I think Beatrice does enjoy our visits to the Missions.  She has even started asking to read the "Mish book" too...

Visit to Santa Barbara

We spent the weekend in Santa Barbara with Ian & Laina.  Or as Beatrice would say, with MACKY DOG AND BILLY DOG!!!!!

Here she is hopping with the dogs.  She is in love.  (She also enjoyed seeing Ian and Laina)

We had a great time visiting old haunts and hanging out with Ian and Laina (and the DOGS!)
The drive there and back (+ roundtrip to LA) was a bit much for Beatrice, but with a Happy Meal on your head, it makes the trip easier.
And of course we went to Padaro Beach Grill!  We even saw a train.
