Happy 4th of July!

Every now and then I'm reminded of how different Beatrice's childhood in California is going to be from mine in Georgia. In Georgia, people do not own "Fourth of July sweaters." I got Beatrice ready for the 4th of July parade - she was wearing a bathing suit and t-shirt. Zach said, "Don't you think she should wear a sweater, or at least pants?" For those of you who know Zach's preferred temperature (freezing), you'll understand the enormity of that statement. I responded, "But it's the Fourth of July!" Zach then pointed out that in California, especially Northern California, all that meant was you weren't sure if the fog would interfere with the fireworks that evening. So we compromised - Beatrice wore pants over her bathing suit and jumped around to stay warm during the parade.
The Piedmont parade was fun. Lots of candy and interesting sights. The entire day though I kept thinking, "But it's supposed to be hot, really hot on the Fourth of July...like melt-your-eyeballs-HOT." Guess we'll have to get our fill in August when we go to Georgia.
After a nice long nap, John and Jasandra joined us for an afternoon of relaxing and a long dinner. Beatrice had an excellent time with them, and the four of us relived our London days (though I did it without wine) after Beatrice went to bed for the night. A very fun 4th of July, even if I did have to change into jeans and a sweater before dinner because I was COLD!
